Issue Brief: School-Based Health Care in Ohio: A Closer Look at School-Based Health Centers

School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) demonstrate strong evidence for improving student health and education outcomes, advancing equity, and reducing societal costs. Health Impact Ohio is proud to serve as the fiscal sponsor for the Ohio School-Based Health Alliance, as well as employ their executive director, Reem Aly.

Across Ohio, school-based health centers (SBHCs) are being deployed as a leading, evidence-driven model for advancing school-based health care. SBHCs are created through a partnership between a school/school district and a healthcare provider to increase access to, at minimum, primary healthcare services to students on a school campus. This collaborative health and education partnership is transformational in reducing disparities and improving health and education outcomes for students.

Last October, Health Impact Ohio became a member of the Health Professions Week 2022 Alliance Network. We are proud to share that we have continued our support and collaboration with Health Professions Week into 2023 highlighting the Community Health Worker (CHW) profession.

This month, Dr. Tanikka Price, Chief Education & Equity Officer, at Health Impact Ohio hosted an informative evening discussion on the Community Health Worker profession with an audience of health professionals, educators, and high school and college students from across the country. The webinar titled, “Community Health Workers: The Key to Addressing Health Disparities and Achieving Health Equity,” provided participants with an understanding of the unique role that Community Health Workers play in serving marginalized populations to improve equity and eliminate health disparities.
